Applied Behavior Analysis is a scientific study of one’s behavior. It helps to understand the reason for a particular behavior of a child.
Children usually use their behaviors for communication. The function of any behavior displayed by the child could be to get something (ATTENTION) to get rid of something (ESCAPE) or simply looking for sensory input (SENSORY SEEKING). Only if we understand the language of their behavior we can employ the strategies to decrease problem behavior and increase good behavior. Data is collected to determine the ABC’s i.e Antecedent, Behavior, and the Consequence. The (problem) behaviors are treated with a 2pronged approach that is employing strategies to prevent or replace behavior and employing strategies when behavior is faced.
This helps the child to get engaged in learning and learn to communicate with language instead of behaviors!
