Sensory integration is a term that has been used to describe processes in the brain that allow us to take information we receive from our all senses, organize it, and respond appropriately.
Putting together information from all of these senses allows us to participate in everyday activities. By integrating, or combining all the information we get from our senses, we can ‘make sense’ of the world around us and successfully move through and interact in our world.
Therapy sessions are play-oriented and may include using equipment such as swings, trampolines, ladder and various textures. Sensory integration also uses therapies such as deep pressure, brushing, weighted vests, and swinging. Therapies help calm an anxious child.
It helps in self-regulations, improving attention and learning,
improved function in school, home and community, improved independence with activities of daily living (ADLs) and enhanced planning ability.
